Cartoons, Mitra made her debut as a cartoonist in 1984, and since then her works have been published mainly in the Italian press, like L'Unità, la Repubblica, and Corriere della Sera. In 1995, a selection of her cartoons was exhibited in a well received solo show in Ravello, Italy. In the catalogue text, Duccio Trombadori wrote:
…Through elegant irony, cool humour, and composed surreal aplomb, Mitra's whimsical narratives never lapse into satire's cynicism. Instead, a melancholy little spirit moves through them, observing fragments of life, tracing their outlines, and joining them with the grace of a poetic melody.
